About this Book

For the young animal lover, In the Dark of the Night is an enchanting picture book by Paul Stewart with atmospheric illustrations by Tim Vyner. - Irish Examiner

The landscapes are mystical, while the wolves are represented realistically. This is a rite of passage book but its true significance lies in the animals it chooses to depict. This book seeks to establish wolves as denizens of the natural world, and in that aim achieves a worthwhile success. - Ibby Link

Good for reading aloud with atmospheric artwork. - Bookseller

5 stars. An enchanting read-aloud story, magically illustrated by Tim Vyner. - www.bettybookmark.co.uk

A visually striking book which appears at a time when there is increasing interest in the relationship between wolves and people. It should appeal to dog-lovers and budding lycanthropists alike. - Books for Keeps

The atmospheric, painterly illustrations portray the cub's trepidation as well as the animals' joyous abandon as they sing to the Moon. The initial watercolours are dark and shadowy, contrasting nicely with the later images bathed in soft moonlight. This lovely title could be compared to Jill Newsome's 'Night Walk'. - School Library Journal

It is bedtime, yet in the warmth of his den a young cub cannot sleep. And Papa Wolf knows why: the time has come to take his cub out into the dark night. As they go, Papa Wolf soothes his young son's fears away - and when they reach the top of the world, he shows how big wolves make the night their own and where the cub belongs… Paul Stewart's first picture-book is an enchanting read-aloud story, magically illustrated by Tim Vyner.
